The Sierra Leone Indigenous Business Association (SLIBA) has completed a three day survey on data collection on business activities in Kenema city. Speaking to the press the Executive
Secretary SLIBA Victoria Williams disclosed that the purpose of the exercise was to know the level of business activities in the country and the eastern region in particular as well as business partners who have registered with SLIBA in the country.
Madam Williams disclosed that SLIBA may want to know the type of businesses that are being operated legally as most business people complain about the high increase in taxes. She disclosed that SLIBA will also advocate for its members for facilities as that will help improve on their business.
Madam Williams said SLIBA is working in collaboration with the International Finance
Corporation (IFC), and that similar business assessment exercises are being undertaken in Makeni, Bo and Freetown.
She maintained that SLIBA will also access other business partners like NASSIT and know their policy of development so that they can collaborate with them for the development of the association.
Contributing the SLIBA consultant Mohamed Hassan Jalloh also said they have trained five enumerators in data collection in Kenema city and the enumerators have submitted their report which he described as good. Jalloh said the data collected and the statistics gathered about Kenema city indicates that most business people in the city are cooperating with SLIBA. He added that with the cooperation of both Public and private sectors, government will be able to provide more jobs for the people.
