The Sierra Leone Commercial Bank, which is one of the oldest banks now in operation within the country, has come to face serious lash-out from its numerous customers.
The bank has come to be known for its long queues normally during the ‘Pay Days’ and even off the pay days. But that not withstanding the bank has become notorious for the delay it causes customers at the month’s end.
Costumers that normally come to even do withdrawals from their accounts at the bank have gone disgruntled for the time they waste at the bank instead of being at work. They complained that “the bank waste our time even when we come to withdraw our monies”.
A customer, who chose his identity to be hidden, opined to Awoko that “the Sierra Leone Commercial Bank is now the place where customers come to spend their idle or leisure time.”
For animosity’s sake, two lecturers from the Languages Department of the School of Education at Njala University told Awoko in unison that, “it was best to be at the Sierra Leone Commercial Bank as an escape from lectures but in the vein of collecting salaries”.
They told Awoko that even when they went to receive salaries at the bank they spent more time than they should.
These lecturers jokingly said the motto of the bank which is “For prompt and efficient service”, ought to be coined: ‘For delay and ineffective service.’ They complained that the bank wasted their time too much which they could have sacrificed no where.
A Nigerian business man also told Awoko that, “I had spent more than two hours now at this bank.”
Sierra Leoneans from various walks of life are also complaining.
