Police in Ukraine has confirmed the murder of a Sierra Leonean in what they suspect as racist killing.
The 40 year old Sierra Leonean was been found knifed to death in Kiev.
The police said the man’s corpse was discovered over the weekend, Saturday night precisely in a residential district outlying the capital, with stab wounds and a major head injury.
The Ukrainian police said that two minors were suspects but that they had not brought any charges against them. However the police have opened a murder inquiry.
The man is thought to have worked in a Kiev market. A total of six foreigners were murdered in Kiev last year and another five seriously injured.
In January a young refugee from the Democratic Republic of Congo was killed in a fight with unknown assailants, who stabbed him 17 times and left him for dead.
Police have yet to find anyone for that racist attack.
In June 2007 the UN High Commissioner for refugees expressed its “extreme disquiet” over an increase in racist attacks in Ukraine against asylum seekers, refugees and other foreigners.
Ukrainian celebrities and foreigners living in Ukraine staged a demonstration last June in Kiev to protest against mounting racism in the former soviet republic.
