Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – The Western Area Rural District Football Association (WARDFA) concluded its highly anticipated “One Hundred Million” Tournament on Monday, April 29th, 2024, with a thrilling final match at the Bassa Town field between Bassa Town Community and Morabi Community. In an intense showdown, Morabi Community emerged victorious, securing a 1-0 victory over their opponents.
This tournament forms part of President Brima’s ambitious initiative to bolster grassroots football development across Sierra Leone, underscoring his unwavering commitment to nurturing the sport at all levels nationwide.
The finals, held under the esteemed patronage of Western Area Rural District Council (WARDC) Chairman, Kasho J. Holland Cole, drew a large and enthusiastic crowd from various parts of the district, underscoring the community’s fervent passion for football.
President Thomas Daddy Brima, accompanied by SLFA’s Acting General Secretary, Mohamed Benson Bawoh, National Youth Football Coordinator Alimamy Kurash Conteh, and National U17 Team Manager Musa “Salim” Pokawa, graced the event with his presence. In a private conversation with District Football Association Chairman, Kebbie Sesay, President Brima expressed his personal attachment to the development of Bassa Town Field.
President Brima’s dedication to football development is further evident through recent infrastructure projects supported by FIFA. The construction of four new artificial turf pitches, including the SLFA Academy Field, Approved School Field, Port Loko Town Field, and Bo Coronation Field, has been completed under his leadership. Additionally, renovations were carried out at Kono and Kenema Town Fields, reflecting President Brima’s proactive approach to enhancing football facilities across the nation. BT/1/5/2024
