For the purpose of enhancing tourism in the country and ensuring development in the provinces, Parliament through the Minister of Lands Country Planning and the Environment Dr. Denis Sandy, has ratified the first and second schedule of the Mape Site Plan. The Mape Site Project has to do with a specialized area in the Kafu Bullom Chiefdom in Port Loko District that is going to be developed mainly for tourism in a bid to attract foreign investors and tourists upon their visits to the country. The Mape Project, Dr. Sandy revealed, is a private sector investment project initiated by some patriotic Sierra Leoneans living abroad, pioneered by Yvonne Aki Sawyerr and other with funding arrangements entirely drawn from Switzerland and Greece. The Minister said that the project will not only create development in the country but it will also help in the area of employment, enhance savings and improve the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country. The Mape Site Plan will constitute state of the art structures with improved modern facilities; comfortable enough to host strangers, leaving them with sweet memories after they would have left the shores of Sierra Leone. Dr. Sandy said that the approval of the project in Parliament demonstrates government’s commitment to ensure the project comes to fruition and that it is now up to the private sector activists to work on plans to start the project soon
