Makeni, SIERRA LEONE – Abdulrahman Turay, the head coach of Kholifa Stars Football Club, is buoyant following his team’s 1-1 draw at home against East End Lions, one of Sierra Leone’s renowned football clubs. Turay sees this result as a significant boost to their determination to avoid relegation at the end of the season.
Leading the Magburaka-based team in their debut season in Sierra Leone’s national top-flight league, Turay’s primary objective is to steer them clear of relegation. Despite being rooted at the bottom of the 2023/24 Leone Rock Premier League with 17 points from 22 league games, Turay remains optimistic about their survival prospects.
“Our 1-1 draw against East End Lions has bolstered the team’s resolve to fight and avoid relegation. We just need to secure victories in the next three games to solidify our position and escape relegation,” Turay affirmed. He stressed the importance of maintaining focus and receiving continued support from the club’s fans.
Winger Santigie Dumbuya, named the man of the match in their recent draw against East End Lions, echoed his coach’s confidence in their ability to avoid relegation. Despite their current position at the bottom of the table, Dumbuya sees their recent back-to-back draws as signs of progress and believes they can return to winning ways with hard work and dedication.
With 12 games remaining in the season, Kholifa Stars face a tough challenge. They are set to travel to take on Old Edwardians, currently in 5th place, this weekend. Sitting 30 points behind league leaders Bo Rangers, Kholifa Stars need to secure at least nine points from their next three matches to climb out of the relegation zone. ARW/18/4/2024
