Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – Following a contentious appeal filed by Diamond Stars FC against a decision by the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Cup Emergency Disciplinary and Protest Committee, the FA Cup Emergency Appeals Committee has ruled in favour of East End Lions.
The appeal (FA/24/001) arose from a match between Diamond Stars and East End Lions on March 20th, 2024, where Diamond Stars were penalized for the conduct of their officials and fans, resulting in the disruption of the match.
Diamond Stars contested the ruling, arguing that their supporters’ celebrations were within the norms of football, and they were not solely responsible for security at the venue. Additionally, they raised concerns about the impartiality of certain committee members.
After careful deliberation, the Appeals Committee upheld the initial decision, confirming Diamond Stars’ forfeiture of the match against East End Lions. However, they reduced Mohamed Dabundeh’s fine and imposed a fine on Diamond Stars for failing to manage their supporters.
The ruling, deemed final and binding, marks the conclusion of the appeal process, securing East End Lions’ victory in this legal battle within the realm of Sierra Leonean football. BT/17/4/2024
