Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – In a surprising turn of events, East End Lions Football Club’s Head Coach Sarfo Castro expressed disappointment over his team’s recent 1-1 draw against Kholifa Stars Football Club in the ongoing Leone Rock Premier League, attributing the outcome to underestimating their opponents.
Speaking to Awoko Newspaper in a post-match interview at the Wusum Stadium in Makeni on Sunday, the Ghanaian-born manager acknowledged that his side had overlooked Kholifa Stars, resulting in an unexpected stalemate. Despite East End Lions securing an early lead through an own goal in the 45th minute, Kholifa Stars’ relentless efforts paid off when Mario Jabbie capitalized on a defensive lapse to equalize in the 61st minute, securing a crucial point for the struggling side.
The draw came as a disappointment to East End Lions, currently occupying fourth place in the league standings with 35 points from 22 games, trailing behind Bhantal FC by three points. Coach Castro lamented the missed opportunity, citing various factors including the team’s late arrival in Makeni and a delayed pre-match meal as contributing factors to the lackluster performance.
Acknowledging the need to learn from the setback, Castro commended his players for their resilience and vowed to bounce back stronger. He emphasized the importance of approaching each match with the right mindset and assured fans of the team’s determination to continue competing at their best.
Reflecting on the draw as a valuable lesson, Castro reaffirmed his commitment to improving the team’s performance and competitiveness in the league, aiming to challenge formidable opponents such as Bo Rangers and FC Kallon. Despite the setback, he remained optimistic about the team’s prospects moving forward and pledged to address any shortcomings to ensure a stronger showing in future fixtures. ARW/17/4/2024
