The President and members of Zonta Club of Freetown congratulate United Nations Country Team in Sierra Leone on its 75th Anniversary. The Club joins the Zonta International President Sharon Langenback to reinforce the fact that, Zonta will not relent in its partnership with various UN agencies in the area of promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment, but will continue to partner with these UN agencies on empowerment programs aimed at raising awareness on education and ending child marriage of the Girl Child, and strengthening structures to address these global issues.
Internationally Zonta International has a longstanding relationship and has supported the United Nations since its inception in 1945. Today Zonta has representatives at Major locations including New York, Geneva, Vienna, UNESCO in Paris and ESCAP in Bangkok. Zonta has a platform at the yearly UN Convention on the Status of women. In Sierra Leone, Zonta Club of Freetown advocates for gender equality and works with various partners to ensure women and girls’ active participation in decision-making and leadership as part of Sierra Leone’s contribution to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal 5.
As Zonta international starts a new biennium with the theme “Transitions, Changes and New Opportunities”, Zonta Club of Freetown looks forward to forging new strategic partnership with the UN Country Team in general and more specifically with UNICEF, UNFPA and UN Women in Sierra Leone to improve health and education of vulnerable Sierra Leonean girls and to end all types of gender-based violence against women and girls.
