The Fornikoh Youth Development Association and Fornikoh Mothers Club in collaboration with the Kenema City Council (KCC) have paid respect to past heroes who were laid to rest at the Heroes’ Square along Hangha road, in Kenema.
The activities include cleaning of the perimeter fence and the grave site, where many late prominent personalities were laid to rest.
Speaking to Awoko along the grave site, the Coordinator of the Fornikoh Youth Association, Mohamed Faderu Lamin said that the people no longer have historic memories of their past heroes, as most of them believe that the dead are gone forever and do not deserve respect. He said that they as youths in the Fornikoh community sees the venture as obligatory, pointing out that to show love and respect for the dead is the only honor they can offer to those who have served the community and have passed away. He appealed to youths of other communities to emulate this fine example, so that past heroes would rest in peace. Contributing, the chairlady Fornikoh mothers Club, Musu Ndowei, said that they as mothers would continue to give support to their children to achieve their objectives. She called on others from other organizations to do the same to ensure a healthy and decent environment for both the living and the dead.
