The Youths Handball championship will start today at the National Stadium and it is organized in response to the clarion call by the Director of Sports Bai Kabia that all sporting associations must take their disciplines to the schools and the regions.
The other reason advanced was that Youth Handball competition is from the lessons they have learnt and the experience gained from the First Commonwealth Handball games in Kaduna, where Ghana took their youth team to the competition and they were able to excel because they have been playing local competitions on several occasions and they went to Nigeria to represent their country.
The Director of Sports says they too want the youth to start representing Sierra Leone in the future and that is why they want them to be confident when playing the game of Handball.
During the three days competition four teams will compete for the Kadie Sam Sumana giant trophy. The teams are Freetown, Koidu Town, Bo Town and Makeni Town. The competition will start today between Freetown and Makeni Town and on Wednesday 17th December Bo Town will battle against Koidu Town while on Friday 19th December the first match will be for the third place.
