Preparing to take on leadership positions, the Young Women in Governance Network in the Eastern Region, on Tuesday 16th February 2021 appointed their first executive to handle the affairs of their group at the Eastern Polytechnic with support from Irish Aid through SEND Sierra Leone ‘More than a Women project.
The Executive s made up of Students at the Eastern Polytechnic with the aim of raising awareness around the goal of the project and how their activities will contribute to achieving the goals in the coming years.
Welcoming the new executive, the outgoing President of the Kailahun Women in Governance Network, Lucy C. F. Gondor, expressed appreciation on the brave step taken by the young ladies towards governance at the appropriate time when they are in their academic struggles.
“Your early involvement in the fight for women’s advancement, empowerment in our local and national Governance and responsiveness in our communities is a welcoming initiative by SEND Sierra Leone,” she maintained, disclosing that the journey is rough, but however assured the young ladies that they will surely reach higher heights as they have started early.
“Be committed, focused, determined and above all ‘BE YOUR SELF.’ Work as a team and always consult,” she said, encouraging them to collaborate with the Women’s Network in the Region and also seek advice from them when necessary.
The Young Women in Governance Network is an initiative used to build the capacity of young women through training and experience sharing.
According to the SEND Sierra Leone Field officer on the ‘More than a Women’ project, Kulakoh Janneh, they want to use this platform to inspire vibrant young ladies to become head of department, Mayors, President, Members of Parliament, Ministers among others.
She disclosed that engaging these young women is not new, as they have started the partnership since 2019, but want to formalize their relationship by setting up an executive board that will continue to work with the young women to achieve their dream in time of Politics and governance.
The new executive includes;

4. Assistant Secretary General- Mamie Deborah Zombe
5. P R O- Jennifer Ngobeh.
6. Treasure- Musukula Kemokai.
7. Organising Secretary- Mamie Fodie Kanneh
8. Adviser- Alice B D Rogers and Theresa Kemokai
9. Auditor-. Isha Janneh
10. Welfare- Muedatu Manyeh.
