President Ernest Bai Koroma has completed the nominations of twenty people to serve as ministers in his new government. Three have already been approved by parliament but there are lots of talks about the new names. Our reporter Ishmael Bayoh was out and about in the streets to sound the opinion of some people and what they make of it.
Mohamed Marrah: The way I view the cabinet is like it is not regionally biased unlike the previous government. Even when people say it is a northern cabinet, my district Koinadugu is not represented which is also part of the north. I am expecting a very good performance from the new cabinet and we should pray for that, but looking at the cabinet I have read in some papers of some nominees allegedly involving in malpractices and with that, they must be properly checked by the appointment committee.
Musa Abdul Malikie:Well I do not know much of the new cabinet but there are some that I am happy with especially the nominee for the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Zainab Bangura. I stand confused about the appointment of ministers from parliament but as far as I know the President should have allowed them to stay in parliament to represent there people. On the energy ministry, the nominee, Haja Afsatu Kabbah has a lot of task ahead because energy is one sector where any government that would want to succeed must really solve. On the whole and from the names of the nominees I believe it is not regionally biased as was expected.
Sorie Gbawuru Sillah: There are some people that were nominated that I had kept in my mind for ministerial positions and I believe they will perform. Most of the ministers are new faces with fresh ideas ready to deliver the political goods. One thing left now is all hands should be on deck for this new cabinet to succeed.
Bobson A. Kamara :No doubt I am happy with the new faces and with the zeal of the President I believe they too will have the desire to serve diligently for a better Sierra Leone. Despite that I am apprehensive about few of the nominees but I wish them well
Saidu Gbla: Iam a businessman and the name I heard for the minister that will be responsible for us is a respected man. What some of us want is ease in our business activities. I have confidence in these new ministers to perform but if they do not perform, the people will definitely remove them.
