One of the peripheral Health Centres in Kono, Sandor chiefdom, is presently in a state of collapsing after the clinic which has been running almost a year now goes without drugs.
Speaking to Awoko, the senior nurse Finda Nyandemoh said the clinic has not been getting regular supply of drugs from the central hospital in Koidu.
She said the medical stores in Koidu have not sent in any supply of drugs to the clinic for several months. In order to keep the clinic running, Mrs. Nyandemoh said she had to buy drugs locally.
What is more pathetic is that most of the monies spent on these drugs, are not refunded by the hospital.
She further reiterated that patients in the township and the surrounding villages have not been coming regularly, since the clinic does not have drugs to offer them.
The nurse said her fear at the moment is for an outbreak not to occur, as it could be disastrous and fatal.
When asked which of the diseases is common amongst the people, Mrs. Nyandemoh said malaria is generally common but sickness such as respiratory disease, diarrhea, and cough are more associated with children, though statistics shown in relation to them shows fatality is low.
The District Medical Officer Dr. David Boome said he was disappointed about the news and that he would urgently do something about it. Mr. Boome personally expressed total dissatisfaction over the nature of his job.
He said being the sole doctor in-charge of the traditional birth attendants and pediatrics patients, made the job completely uninteresting.
He said in Kenema hospital where there are over three doctors, each is specifically assigned to a particular unit, making the job easier and interesting.
