Young Men Christian Association (YMCA) which has twenty four (24) branches all over Sierra Leone yesterday started their peer review mechanism at their National Headquarters, Fort Street. The five (5) days session included 25 participants from Liberia and Senegal.
National Chairman of the YMCA Mr. Siaka Charles in his opening statement said Africa is a poor country but for him it is the best because of the novelty in African Alliance. He stated that every session of the program is important and that they are not in a review gathering for monopolizing ideas or knowledge but to sensitize each others. He finally welcomed representative from the provinces and also those from different countries.
The Executive Secretary African Alliance of YMCA Mr. Simon Badiane said YMCA is working for perfection and they would do their all to reach that goal of excellence. Mr. Badiane stated that YMCA is a triumph in Africa as a whole.
He commended YMCA Sierra Leone for their good job and said he brought representatives from other countries just to learn from their successes and encourages every member of the YMCA to continue their hard work so that Africa as a whole would be rephrased. He concluded by thanking the chairman and all his board members for their good job.
Christian M Kamara National General Secretary YMCA Sierra Leone, in his presentation pointed out that their current membership is 400 (200 youth) and their beneficiaries who are benefiting from school, slum, agriculture and business centre are 12,000. He said over 95% of their association’s income is funded from external sources.
Highlighting their achievements he said they had completed and officially opened their Regional and Central Branch in Bo, celebrated 30 years of fruitful partnership with CIJM of West Africa and they have also extended their business center.
