At the end of the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) 5th Triennial Meeting, National General-Secretary Christian M. Kamara says that they will continue to meet the needs of young people and the communities they serve, at all times.
Delivering the association’s annual report, Kamara said they have completed the last three years with a stronger sense of commitment and achievement as they are proud of those achievements.
He stated that they are very conscious of the fact that they have to work harder, if they are to survive as a movement within Sierra Leone and the world at large.
He encouraged members and staff to be committed to the vision enshrined in their strategic document: Empowering Young People for the African Renaissance and ensure that it is fully implemented.
The National General Secretary lamented that their policy framework has provided them with a road map which can lead them to a sustainable and even more relevant action to their membership and communities. Kamara said the association can achieve its objectives by constantly scanning and being proactive in the diagnosis of the environment, exploring From Page 5
opportunities and regularly interfacing with the youths and community which is the source of their existence and strength.
He called on all those associated with the organization to pay attention to fund-raising, which he described as an area where they need to focus most of their attention.
Outgoing National Treasurer and incoming National Chairman of the association Ethelbert Tejan, said the financial performance of the association in the recent past has been commendable, considering the current economic climate that they had operated in. He said in spite of all the challenges, the association was able to run its operations within the economic framework making impact at both national and international circles, which he said, is a plus to the admiration of other line institutions, including those operating in the private and public sectors.Outgoing National Chairman Siaka P.J. Charles lamented that the association had increased public visibility, leading to enhanced community, national and international collaborations and called on Sierra Leoneans to go into communities and see for themselves the achievements of YMCA . Nationally, we are high on the development agenda for the country; internationally we continue to epitomize good leadership and development,’ Charles said.
