The Minister of Youth Employment and Sports Paul Kamara has dissolved both factions of the Sierra Leone Athletics Association (SLAA) executive on Tuesday February 1, 2011 at his Bishop House Office at the National Stadium.
The Minister invited the two Executive members to a meeting to hear their differences and to find a lasting solution in the association.
After hearing that the International body IAAF has not recognized any party the Minister addressed the parties then dissolved both parties and mandated the leaders of both parties Andre T Hope and Karim Sesay to come together to find a final solution to the problem and report back to him within one week.
At the end of the meeting Andre T Hope disclosed to Awoko that he was pleased with the Minister’s decision as he used the Wisdom of Solomon to take the decision. He added that he is going to work with Karim Sesay to see how they can solve the problem as they are not in the Association to work for themselves but for the athletes and the country.
When asked if he was expecting such decision from the Minister Andre Hope said he never knew what they were going to discuss and he went to the meeting unprepared but he attended the meeting with a very open mind.
He said he is going to do everything possible to work with Karim Sesay to find a solution so that the Minister’s effort will not go in vain. Karim Sesay also said he was pleased with the Minister’s decision and he will never go against government decision.
