In the ongoing premier league, played over the weekend, Wusum Stars defeated Old Edwardians by two goals to one at the National Stadium in Freetown.
Old Edwardians also lost their first round to their opponents at the Makeni playing field by three goals to one.
Wusum Stars went into lead midway in the first half. After the goal they were playing with more players in the midfield and the defence to maintain their lead until the end of the first half.
During the second segment, Wusum Stars came more determined to increase the score line to two. But Old Edwardians were more desperate as they are currently fighting relegation.
Wusum Stars got their second goal in the 70th minutes of play after a defensive blunder. After that goal, Old Edwardians fought back to score a consolation goal through a penalty kick by Sillay. After that goal they missed two more chances.
The much needed goal to equalize never materialized until the end of the match.
In the other encounter in Magburka, Golden Dragons defeated Golf Leopards by two goals to one.
The competition continues today at the National Stadium between Blackpool and Gem Stars of Tongo. The latter, who are fighting relegation, cannot afford to lose a match as that will affect them in the premier league.
Blackpool’s head coach, Christian Cole, said they were going for revenge in today’s encounter after losing against Nepean Stars.
