Makeni, SIERRA LEONE – Makeni-based outfit Wusum Stars Football Club faced another setback in the 2023/24 Leone Rock Premier League (LRPL) as they succumbed to a late goal, losing 2-1 to Bo Rangers on Wednesday. This marks the fourth consecutive defeat for Wusum Stars in the ongoing league season.
The host’s misfortune began in the seventh minute of the match when former defender Saidu Mansaray of Bo Rangers took advantage of a rebound to give his team the lead, causing a momentary silence at the Wusum Stadium. Edison M. Sonnie managed to level the terms for Wusum Stars eight minutes later.
Despite both teams staying vigilant and showcasing fantastic ball control through accurate passes, Bo Rangers’ skipper, Saidu Bah, later named the player of the match, scored in the 88th minute, securing all three points for the back-to-back champions of the Sierra Leone Premier League.
While this victory solidifies Bo Rangers’ title defence, placing them at the top of the table with 29 points after 12 games, Wusum Stars faced another defeat, securing only 18 points from 14 league matches played so far. This loss marks their fourth consecutive defeat in the ongoing Leone Rock Premier League and their second successive loss at home.
In each of these defeats, Wusum Stars have lost by a narrow 1-0 margin, falling to Ports Authority, Freetown City Council, FC Kallon, and now Bo Rangers. Despite the challenging situation, Head Coach Mohamed Lamin Kamara remains optimistic about the season. He told Awoko Newspaper, “I am still confident that we can achieve our goal by winning the remaining matches.” Kamara aims to lead Wusum Stars to victory and ultimately secure the 2023/24 Leone Rock Premier League title.
