Four Women’s groups in Bumbe Ngao, namely, Sinava Womens’Association, Muwomia Womens’group, Mulona Womens’group and Moigeh Womens’ Foundation have benefited from a donation made by World Vision to promote agriculture and ameliorate poverty amongst the women in that community. The donation of farm tools includes wheelbarrows, cutlasses, pickaxes, spades and watering cans and seeds.
World Vision-Sierra Leone is making the donation as part of the organisation’s effort to help sustain food security, ameliorate poverty and ease hunger in rural communities within its areas of operation.
Addressing the session mostly made of Women Groups on behalf of the Area Development Program Manager Ambrose Fomba, the Development Facilitator Tamba Boima gave an over view of the women’s programme which he stated is designed to empower viable women groups in the community as a way of promoting food security, nutrition and care for the environment. He encouraged the women to live up to the task. Mr. Boima praised the Bumpe Ngao Development Management Committee for its cooperation and called on them not to relent.
In his statement, Mr. Michael Koroma explained that the programme is designed to support the women with training and providing needed logistics to facilitate their work. He disclosed that Wold Vision intends to intervene in three other communities namely, Tinkonko, Serabu and Bumpe townships to enhance agriculture, nutrition and environmental preservation and protection.
For her part, the Sponsorship Facilitator, Josephine Kenneh educated the women on the basics that have to do with her area of responsibility and advised the women to remain focused and united so as to avoid problems that have the potential of setting them apart. He noted the importance of team work as crucial to them rather than working as individuals.
In his key not address, Paramount Chief Tommy Kposowa praised the World Vision for their timely intervention and also commended the Area Manager and his team for their commitment.
Paramount Chief Kposowa also commended the Women groups, describing them as “viable” and encouraged them to continue working in their collective interests. He assured World Vision that the women are well focused and ready to work as expected with the fullest support of the Chiefdom Administration.
Earlier the Chairman who doubles as the Principal for Bumpe Secondary School, Joe Konia Kposowa pleaded with the women to continue to live up to expectation, noting that the Chiefdom Management Committee will continue to give the women the needed support.
Others speakers include; Mabinty Fogbawa, Jeneba Mamakoi all of whom promised to do their best to promote the good work of the women and revamp agriculture in the Chiefdom. Wife of the Paramount Chief performed the presentation of the farming tools.
