The Director of Education, Youth and Sport Mr. Anthony Koroma disclosed that the World Bank has donated Le101 Billion to kick start the National Youth Commission.
He made this statement on Tuesday at the Presidential Lounge of the national stadium, Brookfields on stakeholders’ engagement of the establishment of the National Youth Commission organized by the YMCA S/L and the National Youth Coalition with their arm to support youth livelihood and governance in Sierra Leone.
In his key note address, Mr. Kamara said the enactment of the National Youth Commission Act 2009 is a very big development and in fast tracking it they need to take their time.
He said they love being working partners to actualize the National Youth Commission and they have sought funds from organizations to support NYC because they will not want the Commission to start well and fail at the end because of bad planning.
Mr. Kamara urged youths not to be annoyed but to start thinking seriously as they are relentlessly working on the process. He also admonished youths to think positively about the Commission as it is government’s decision.
The National General Secretary of YMCA Christian Kamara said empowering youths does not only mean to give them jobs, but also to give them skills training.
“Young people have been marginalized and it is high time that they take the lead by involving actively in the NYC “he said. Christian Kamara also said youths should collaboratively work to see that the Commission becomes a success.
He stressed that the Commission should be manned by youths and not by older people as they as partners will continue to work until the NYC is a reality.
Representative from ENCISS youth and Women Coordinator Kadie Jackson, UNIPSL/UNDP-SPU Nabila Tunis urged youths to be patient.

Ismael Al-Sankoh- Conteh expressed his profound gratitude for the esteemed presence at the significant convergence of stakeholders on youth development. “Today’s forum was necessitated by the passing into law of the National Youth Commission Act 2009, and the Presidential assent given by H. E. Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma n the 22nd December 2009.” Al- Sankoh said.
