The Women and Sports Commission in Sierra Leone will start a three day activities comprising of two day workshop that will start today April 29 and a day sports competition on Saturday May 1st 2010.
According to the Secretary General of the Commission Elizabeth French, she said that in the three day activities of the Commission they are going to have participants that would be coming from the provinces to take part in the program as Freetown alone is not Sierra Leone.
After the two day workshop they are going to some sporting activities like Table Tennis, Athletics, Tennis and Cricket were the female athletes are going to showcase their talents that female too are up to the task.
She also stated that it has taken a long time they have not been able to organize such programme for the women because of funding as we all know the state of the country.
She also stated that during this competition they are expected to see female school children and also elite female athletes taken part in the competition which is going to be very interesting.
French further stated that the importance of this competition is to expose the female athletes that does have such opportunities before and this will not be the end as the commission will continue to organized such competitions when the funding are available that is why they are appealing to companies and private individuals to come on board to assist the commission.
French further to appeal to the women who are not active in sports to take sports very seriously as sports is a way of life.
Also during the two day workshop, several topics have been lined up like Women’s Forum network in Sports, Education on Women and girls, Children in Sports and host of other topics
