The Women and Sports Commission of Sierra Leone has commenced their three activities yesterday at the National Stadium Presidential Lounge with the theme Right to Play ,Equal opportunities in work places and Freedom for Justice. The deputy Minister of Social Welfare Gender and Children Affairs Oyah Sankoh in her open statement said she feels happy to be part of the programme as her ministry is in charge of Gender Affairs.
She also stated that her ministry is the machine for women programme in the country the deputy minister of Education Youth and Sports Algassium Jah who declares the workshop open said it takes women to turn sports around that is why as a ministry they are doing everything possible to assist the commission and those who do not want to work will be left behind
The President of the Commission Pamela Williams in her own statement appealed to the women to come together to work for the good of the commission while the President of the National Olympic Committee Henry G Moore said that the International Olympic Committee is very keen about Women activities that is why in NOC they have women desk that is why the women need to be united If they are not united it will not be easy for the NOC to assist them. The programme was chair by the Secretary General of the NOC Joseph Nyande During the first day of the workshop some of the topics covered were Women Forum Network and sports the facilator was Rosaline McCarthy, While Education on Women and the Girl Child in Sports the facilator was from FAWE
Some of the topics that will be covering today are Advocacy on Gender mainstreaming, Legal Structure /Challenges for women and sports the last topic for today is Admin, and challenges in Human Kinetics and Sports
While tomorrow they will end the celebration with sporting activities like Cricket, Lawn Tennis, Table Tennis, and host of others.
