Women in the media Sierra Leone (WIMSAL) eastern region branch have elected their new executive for the eastern region to Mann the affairs of the organisation. The election took place at the Sierra Leone News Agency (SLENA) building along Maxwell Khobe Street in Kenema city under the auspices of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) eastern region executive.
Before the election the chairman of SLAJ eastern region Mohamed Vandi told the electorate not to vote on sentiment but to put people in position that have WIMSAL at heart and will seek the interest of its members.
He revealed that the WIMSAL branch in Kenema have been performing their role as a Journalist body very well but appealed to members not to politicize the organisation. The vice chairman of SLAJ east Saffa Moriba called on them to embark on membership drive in the region. He called upon them to have volunteer groups at Senior Secondary School level in the region adding that most members of the volunteer group will end up in the field of journalism in future.
He called for unity and love among the membership. At the end of the meeting an executive election was conducted under the supervision of the SLAJ branch.
The position for the Regional chairperson went to Elizabeth Jamie Bockarie of Sierra Leone Broadcasting Service (SLBS) while Alice Mustapha of Eastern Radio became the secretary general. The position of financial secretary went to Maltida Aruna of Eastern radio, Veronica Ensah of UN radio became the Public Relations Officer (PRO). Finda Margaret Alieu of Eastern radio became the focal person in Kono district and Bintu Conteh of eastern radio became the focal person for Kailahun district.
In her maiden speech the chairperson elect Elizabeth Jamie Bockarie thanked all and sundry for having confidence in her by giving her the responsibility of manning the affairs of WIMSAL in the eastern region. She promised to live up to the expectation of all and appealed to her colleagues to continue giving her maximum support.
