An International Nongovernmental Organization Welthungerhilfe operating in the eastern region has distributed COVID 19 preventive materials of Non Food Items in Kenema, Kailahun and Kono districts to primary, secondary schools, higher learning institutions, correctional centers, Polytechnic and drivers’ union parks worth 172,000 Euros. In Kenema district the symbolic distribution took place at the Government Secondary school campus along Combema road where key stakeholders were in attendance.
Formally handing over the items through the District Corona Virus Emergency Centre (DICOVERC ) Kenema, the head of project SLE 1085 who also doubles as the Deputy Country Director WHH Santique Kanu said the support is from the German government for the COVID 19 fight in the country.
He disclosed that the items they are giving out in the three districts cost 172,000 Euros and that the items include Milla Tanks with pedals, face mask, hand sanitizer, soap, sanitary pads and Veronica buckets. He further disclosed that 15 Senior Secondary schools in Kenema city, Polytechnic, correctional Centre and drivers’ union lorry parks will receive an additional two sets of Milla Tanks each and therefore called on all to use the items for its intended purpose.
Receiving the items the District Coordinator DICOVERC Umaru Vandi Kondovoh thanked WHH and its partners for the support adding WHH is a household name in the region because of its diverse interventions in the areas of health, agriculture, and infrastructure, humanitarian among others, adding the name WHH is a household name in the region for its intervention in various sectors like health, infrastructure, humanitarian assistance, education, infrastructure, agriculture among others. He called on all to continue observing the COVID 19 rules and regulations as the nation and the world is not yet declared corona free. He assured all of the items meeting the targeted schools.
The vice principal Government Senior Secondary school Kenema Joseph K. Lamin thanked Welthungerhilfe and its partners for their support to learning institutions across the region at this crucial time. He said he is not much surprised about WHH as they are doing more in the region. He assured all that the items will be used for its intended purpose.
