Members of the Jegbelu community in Luawa Chiefdom, Kailahun District, have defiantly distributed a huge consignment of food items that were kept in a store by the World Food Programme (WFP) through its implementing partner, CBAN.
The food items included 85 bags of bulgur, 17 bags of beans and over 14 cartoons of vegetable oil. These were “food for work” items for tree crops rehabilitation scheduled to be distributed by WFP and CBAN.
Reports say one Borbor Mathew and Suleiman Brima spearheaded the distribution, much to the disapproval of the town chief Alpha Amara.
As a result of this, the officer in charge of WFP in Kailahun District, Josephine Blackie, has threatened to withhold all food supplies and other developmental programmes to that community until further notice.
