Well Woman Clinic in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has concluded a breast cancer awareness walk at Lumley Beach in Freetown, to increase public awareness on the signs and symptoms of Breast Cancer for possible treatment.
According to Emnita Popoola, Project Officer of the Well Woman Clinic, the objective of the breast cancer walk is to celebrate the lives of survivors of cancer in the country.
She said the Well Woman Clinic will commence screening of breast cancer patients on the 22nd October 2012, to enable patients with weak finances to get free screening.
The Project officer added that screening facilities are also available in all major government hospitals across the country and encouraged both men and women to go through the breast cancer screening for treatment.
She said the objective of the breast cancer walk is to raise public awareness on early detection and breast self- examination for abnormality.
She also said that over three hundred people participated in the breast cancer walk at the Beach in Freetown, drawn from Non-Governmental Organizations, the Sierra Leone Police Force, Cabinet Ministers and representatives from Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
She encouraged the public to go through the Breast Cancer screening to enable them know their status.
