We have a strong legacy in banking in SL – Rokel Bank MD
Sierra Leone, Freetown: Celebration one year of existence as a branch at Wilkinson Road in Freetown, Managing Director, Rokel Commercial Bank, Dr. Ekundayo Gilpin, on Monday 11th October 2021 said Rokel Commercial Bank has a strong legacy in banking in the country.
“We are proud of what we are doing. We believe in ourselves, we have a strong legacy of banking in the country and we exude exuberance. We are not deterred by what we see, but motivated by what we believe in our hearts. That is why we will continue to rise above the waves,” he said.
He disclosed that they had challenges to get the Wilkinson Road Branch going, but after putting hands together as one people the bank is now celebrating one year of existence as a branch.
He said people are looking for where they can get the best, but he said they had a vision and desire as well as the right staff that are determined and believe in themselves, hence, they were able to bring customers to the bank. “If only we take the right foot front, we can grow and we can become dominant in the sub-region,” he said.
“For quite too long we have been hiding under the doldrums of the rebel war, Ebola, under the doldrums that we just cannot make it, but we can be able to move beyond Sierra Leone like other countries in the sub-region, but we have to first of all get it right here,” he maintained.
He reminded the staff of the bank of their role which he said they must always play in a bid to leave a footprint behind. He expressed his thanks to staff; especially the Branch Manager whom he said had been able to live up to standards despite the odds.
Branch Manager Rokel Commercial Bank, Wilkinson Road Branch, Noel Williams, revealed that when the branch was opened they hadn’t any customer, but now have over one thousand customers (1,000).
He expressed thanks to the MD, Dr. Gilpin whom he said believed in him and made him branch manager. He assured that he and his team will continue to do their best and will not let the MD down.
A customer of the bank, Agatha Williams, said she couldn’t help but come over to celebrate the bank. She opined that the bank has placed more value not only to individual businesses, but to the community as well. “I have benefitted a lot from the bank, but details I cannot disclose” she said.
