The Western Area Volleyball Association (WAVA) has ended its first edition of Beach Volleyball festival at the Lakka beach on 14th January 2011. The beach festival attracted lots of people including volleyball players and members of the public.
Coordinator of the programme, Sorie Kamara disclosed that during the tourney, they were able to identify a number of young volleyball players that could be potential future representatives of Sierra Leone in international volleyball, particularly so when the Sierra Leone Volleyball Association (SLVA) has already registered for more International Beach Volleyball Competitions this year.
He stated that the initiative came after the Sierra Leone Female Volleyball team was eliminated in the second round leg qualifying series for the London 2012 Olympics.
According to Sorie Kamara the tourney last Saturday was a success as they were able to achieve their aims and objective to sell the game to other people who have never had the opportunity of seeing the Sierra Leone National Beach Volleyball Team in action.
