The World Vision has initiated a Water and Sanitation (WatSan) project titled “Bum Area Development Project’ for 149 villages regarded as vulnerable to poor sanitation facility in the Bum Chiefdom, Bonthe District
The project which will last for 15 years will build schools, health centers, agricultural project and offer financial aid.
Speaking to Awoko in the Chiefdom headquarter town of Madina Shebureh, the chairman of the Rural Development Management Committee Angela Tua stated that the project was initiated as the target communities are lacking basic facilities needed for human development.
She added that the project will implement programmes that will encompass health, agriculture, education and micro finance enterprise to women groups.
She further stated that they are working on the micro finance project in collaboration with the German Government and it is meant to enable beneficiaries to survive harsh economic realities and bolster economic growth.
She revealed that a team of German officials had conducted feasibility studies in the target areas to determine the adequate implementation of the micro finance project.
“ When once all necessary steps are ensured, then the project will gain its fullest potential’’Angela Tua said.
She further stated that as a result of poor sanitation, there was an outbreak of malaria which claimed the lives of many people within those communities.
