As part of their agreement, the Ward Development Committee in Ward 006 Constituency 002, Kailahun, has concluded their first evaluation exercise on the activities of Councilor Annie F Gimmy, based on what they agreed some months ago. Opening the session at one of the Barrays in Koindu Township, Kailahun District, Fatu Favor Fomba, staff of SEND Sierra Leone, said the event should not be confrontational but for the people to know what has been achieved and what has not and why. She disclosed that the reason why they are encouraging the people to question their representatives is for them to have first hand information about development in their communities and to also hold accountable people in position of trust.The Chiefdom Speaker in Kissi Teng, Chief Fallah Jusu, described the process as an ‘eye opener’ that will give the people confidence or discomfort about their leaders based on his/her performance relating to development.

“I’m more than willing to support women representation at all level. Supporting women reduces men’s stress and also contribute towards development,” he assured, calling on other people in position of trust to make it a point of duty to always inform their subjects about what is going on relating to development. Giving update on her stewardship, Councilor Gimmy, disclosed she successfully visited and engaged stakeholders in all the Communities in her Ward, but was however, unable to do the fencing around the women societal house “Bondo bush” as it should be done with support from their Member of Parliament Hon. Sahr Juana. Councilor Gimmy maintained she was able to successfully construct two pipe borne tap water in two strategic communities and is presently trying to complete the third closer to the residence of the Chiefdom Speaker. On the area of monitoring and participating in the cleaning exercise of the Koindu township and its environs, she disclosed everywhere but one place is still yet to comply for cleaning, disclosing the place is question belong to one senior major stakeholder in the Chiefdom. Chief Fallah Jusu however assured the Councilor and her subject that he will definitely suspend the Section/Town Chief if he fails to clean their family property (piece of land) based on the request from members of the Ward Development Committee. According to Councilor Gimmy, they have successfully developed bye-laws relating to the free quality education in collaboration with the relevant authority, explaining that since they introduce those bye-laws all pupils are within their school compound before 8 in the morning on a daily basis. “I have set Committee on dress code for pupils. There is no more skinny or short tight/short dress by girls and boys respectively’” she assured, disclosing that she is implementing that together with the women groups. Ensuring the pupils concentrate in class, she disclosed that no smart phone is allowed in school as anyone caught with it in school will have to come with his/her parent before it is released with strict warning. In response the Women leader, Youth Leader and the motorbike representatives commended the Councilor for her bravery in explaining about her deeds and also some of the challenges she faced. This according to them have given the clear picture of how their community is progressing in a little over a year since the Councilor took office, pledging their support towards supporting her in transforming their community. The process is part of the Kailahun Women in Governance Network (KWiGN) project that was supported by Irish Aid program grant through Christian Aid towards promoting women in governance.
