WANEP-SL ends AGM

The West Africa Network for Peace building – Sierra Leone (WANEP-SL) has ended it 8th Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Kenema District Council Hall along Maxwell Khobe Street in Kenema city.  The ceremony attracted participants across the country. In his statement,  the National Coordinator, Edward Jombla  called on participants to make use of the knowledge gained in ensuring that they build peace in Sierra Leone adding that it is injustice that led to violence. “It is now the time to work hard in reuniting the communities especially after the 2007 elections with the aim ofensuing that the peace building works create an impact in the country,” he stressed. In his statement, the Assistant Superintendent of Police, Regional OPS Officer, East Daniel Amara Bongro who represented the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) East, Elizabeth Turay told his audience that the Sierra Leone Police is the pivot in the workof WANEP-SL  emphasizing  that peace is needed  every where. “ Peace can only be successful when it is built positively by monitoring our civic right,” he said.  The aim of the SLP is to bring peace in thesociety thus managing conflict.Earlier in his remarks, the chairman of the ceremony,who is the Regional Director South of Network Movement for Justice and Development (NMJD) and also WANEP-SLExecutive board chairman, Paul Koroma disclosed that WANEP-SL came into being in Sierra Leone in 2002, WANEP was established in 1998. He disclosed that the10th year of WANEP would be celebrated in September this year in Accra, Ghana. He described the AGM as a reconciliatory form that serve as a check and balance mechanism for the organization. He said as civil society, there greatest weapon is their voice. He appealed to all to continue to go out and shout more, saying that there are people who will hear us, saying that peace building  is a commitment and not a career. Paul Koroma totally condemned any form of violence saying that violence is not the way out and  appealed to all to engage in dialogue where ever conflict exist devoid of our emotion. He said in conflict transformation, they should take a  look at the existing system, by making sure that the system change for good. By so doing he said it will have an impact on future generations .  The Coordinator of the Office of the National Security (ONS) East,  Samuel Kamara in his contribution said for ONS to achieve it aims and objective , it depends on the civil society to give them intelligence  from the public. He said conflict every where needs to be reconcile. He called on all to work together to move the country ahead in terms of peace.
