Saturday marked St David’s Day aka the National Day of Wales. It is a day that celebrates the great achievements of a proud and passionate nation- Wales, one of the four countries that make up the United Kingdom (UK). It was the first industrialized nation and home to Aneurin Bevan, architect of the world’s first National Health Service. This year has seen two Welsh scientists winning Nobel Prizes, a Welsh woman conquer Everest, another Welsh woman become Deputy Prime Minister of Australia, and a Welsh boxer become undisputed Middleweight champion of the world. Thirty-one Welsh communities are linked with partners in Sub-Saharan Africa through the Gold Star Communities Scheme. Through this scheme, Wales is bringing the global community closer in a bid to help develop education and reduce poverty. Wales is the world leader in renewable energy for a safe a clean environment.
