Vice President Samuel Sam Sumana was yesterday awarded with the Best Politician of the year 2012 award by the Koinadugu District Excellence Award Committee.
Given a background to the Organization and Committee, the Coordinator, Edward Marrah said they had several categories among them was the category for Best Politician of the year.
The process, he went on, was that people were nominated and then the citizens were allowed to vote through text messages or in a phone-in programme organized by the Organization too.
At the end of the day, Marrah said the Vice President emerged as the winner, as most of the people said he is one of the Vice Presidents of the country that has maintained leadership of the country.”
The Coordinator stated that the VP had focused on power even during trying times, he did not relent but rather continue his work in maintaining leadership.
After receiving the awards, the VP said he was surprised when he was named as the Best Politician of the year and this sends a challenge to him to continue to maintain the pace.
The VP stated that the aspect of leadership comes from divine calling from God, as some are called to be pastors, Imams while others are called to be politicians.
The VP maintained that during the period under review, the road was rugged for him but “I maintained steadfastness and with the help of the President, members of the political party and my family I was able to overcome it.”
VP Sumana said that he is guided by the word ‘THE’, which means Tolerance, Humility and Endurance. Tolerance, he said, is what he exhibited during the trying times and which is very important for people to have.
Humility, the VP explained that no matter what happens or where one finds himself, they need to be humble. ‘Endurance’ he went, he demonstrated to others that there is no straight road in leadership therefore one needs to endure to achieve your set goals.
At some point, Sumana said there were issues that tried to pull him down but with the ‘THE’ he was able to make it.
He disclosed that he is the bridge between the young and old in politics but he cannot do it alone, without the support and encouragement of the President.
He commended the organization for the award and believes as this shows, he is being watched on whatever he is doing.
