Whilst in Kono recently, vice president Samuel Sam Sumana had the opportunity to meet with his party stalwarts of Kono District at the district head office.
He made it clear that he was completely dissatisfied with the attitude of the youth in Kono with regards to their bad behaviour amongst themselves and the authorities as a whole.
Vice president Sam Sumana said he couldn’t understand why the youth of Kono could be so violent that the things they did, “do not have limit”.
He said those who thought violence and lack of respect for the rule of law would be the order of the day, they would surely find themselves behind bars.
Mr Sumana also touched on the illegal mining that was taking place in the district. He said mining in the township should stop and that anyone caught in the act would dearly pay for it. “If you know that the country has a leadership you must stop the illegal mining “, he noted.
Vice president Sumana also paid special attention to the womenfolk of the party. He said he was quite impressed about the agricultural initiative they had embarked upon and of which he would continuously give his support.
He however encouraged residents of the district to follow such good example propounded by the women.
Chief Sumana also showered praises on the paramount chiefs whom he referred to as the parents of the land. He said he appreciated their cooperation of late and hoped it would continue.
Responding, the district party chairman thanked the vice president for explaining his mind to the people.
Chairman T.E.James highlighted some of the things they needed at the branch office: transportation, furniture and incentives for staff.
He also drew the vice president’s attention to certain cases which were still pending in court, and that the party needed lawyers to address some of these cases.
The resident minister East, William J. Smith who was also part of the meeting, admonished the people of Kono to give their support to the party and more especially their child Sam Sumana.
During the course of his stay, vice president Sumana launched three community development projects. They were the construction of the Kono Technical and Vocational Institute at Dorma, Gbense chiefdom, a construction of a market for the yormandu community at Kania road, Tankoro chiefdom and another market for the Gbense chiefdom
