Vice President takes Connaught hospital off by surprise
SIERRA LEONE, Freetown: Vice President Juldeh Jalloh has made a surprise visit to the Connaught Hospital in Freetown yesterday Tuesday, 12th October catching the hospital management and staff off guard.
The VP met with the hospital’s management team, who took him on a conducted tour of the hospital’s different facilities, including the newly formed Dialysis Unit and the freshly refurbished Intensive Care Unit.
The Vice President applauded Dr. Kabba and the whole management team for assuming the responsibility of resuming operations at the hospital. He also praised the tireless efforts of healthcare workers such as medical doctors, nurses, matrons, laboratory assistants, and others in giving treatment to patients.
The Vice President reassured the management team of the government’s continuing support for the health sector. He detailed the government’s various efforts in this area, including the gradual rise of budgetary allocations to health from 6% in 2018 to 11.4 percent in 2020, as well as the recruitment of over 4,000 health personnel.
The VP’s visit occurred at a time when the government is evaluating a management model to better position tertiary institutions to offer effective healthcare services. OG/13/10/2021
