The Vice Chair of the Presidential transition team set up by the All People’s Congress (APC) government to ensure a smooth transition after the recent general elections, Haja Afsatu Kabbah has given a background on the 60 member group.
“ the team is not a witch hunt, nor an audit, neither a research unit but to get first hand information on the current status of government ministries and departments” she said yesterday in an exclusive interview with Awoko
She stressed that, it is the intention of His Excellency Ernest Bai Koroma to make the transition as smooth as possible and to allow for a comprehensive handing over from the outgoing government.
The Vice Chair noted that our findings so far have revealed inadequate information from ministries, departments especially from financial institutions, adding that some of the statements received from these ministries and departments are narratives.
Asked whether there is huge corruption or mismanagement in their findings Haja Afsatu Kabbah maintained “I cannot comment on that now because what we have found so far is inadequate information from these ministries and departments.
“we are still collating the available information, after that we analyze and make recommendations before submitting the first draft to Vice President Sam Sumana (chairman of the team) who will transmit it to the President Koroma.”
According to Lancelot Ayo Lake Senior Technical Adviser of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Liberia who is a member of the transition team, “we are receiving some of the information provided to us by these ministries, departments to us on current projects, policies that were being implemented and resources available to these ministries and departments.”
The various committees in the transition team cover: finance, trade and development; governance reform; infrastructure; agriculture, forestry and environment; social services; mineral and marine resources; national peace and security and foreign affairs and international cooperation.
