Vaccine Monitors trained ahead of Polio Immunization
Ahead of the upcoming Polio Immunization to target 1.4million children, the Ministry of Health and Sanitation in collaboration with FOCUS 1000 has trained over 70 Vaccine Accountability Monitors.
The objective of the two day training held in Bo District was to re-orientate health personnel involved in immunization activities as well as to train new personnel who will serve as vaccine monitors, to ensure that children receive their polio immunization using the prescribed and correct method of vaccine administration.
District Operations Officer, MoHS Francis Lansana explained to the 76 participants about the effectiveness and how safe is the vaccine, which will be administered free to children 0-5 years. He called on parents across the country to take advantage of the first rounds of immunizations days, 15-18th May, 2021 and the second rounds will be conducted from 11-14th June, 2021 respectively.
Chairman, Kombra Network, Bo District, Alhaji Abu Kowa urged the vaccine monitors that huge amount of funds is being invested to save children from being infected with the virus, therefore knowledge acquired during the training deserve seriousness and commitment, while they will be out on the field.
Lansana Maggoh, FOCUS 1000’s district Coordinator in Bo, encouraged the newly trained vaccine and Accountability Monitors to work in the interest of children going the extra mile to hard to reach communities.
The training will also be carried out in other districts across the country with support from UNICEF through MoHS and FOCUS 1000.
