As she departed from Sierra Leone the United States (US) Department of State Assistant Secretary for African Affairs, Dr. Jendyai Frazer, urged the new government of President Ernest Bai Koroma to harness the positive momentum of the elections and the subsequent peaceful transition of power to progress towards its development aspirations.
The Assistant Secretary described the meeting with President Ernest Koroma, foreign minister Zainab Bangura and the minister of finance David Carew as “positive”, and reaffirmed that the strong relationship between the two countries was an assurance that the friendship and support would remain constant.
She said, “we are committed to helping the Sierra Leonean people in their efforts to achieve prosperity and a bright future for themselves and their generations.”
Dr Frazer said, “I am optimistic as I believe the people of Sierra Leone yearn for a bright future. I thank the people for the warm welcome I receive during this short visit, and I look forward to America’s continued engagement with Sierra Leone.”
