Justice Salimatu Koroma has been nominated by the American Ambassador, June Carter Perry, to attend a round table conference for women in justice which is currently taking place in Washington D.C
The programme, which is in honour of international Women’s Day, will host a global forum for women’s justice, and this will see judges recognizing the global severity of violence against women and women’s lack of access to justice.
The conference is also geared toward sharing best practices to combat violence against women and improve women’s legal enfranchisement, and develop an Action Plan to identify and combat the most urgent obstacles to women’s justice.
The United States embassy in a release states that it is looking forward to the positive performance of Justice Koroma in this all important events in mapping the way forward women’s access to justice in this programme and hopes that her experience will empower her with knowledge to maximize her potential as a legal professional in Sierra Leone.
Panelists at the roundtable will include retired United States Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, ambassador Shirin Tahir-Kheli, Senior Advisor to the Secretary of State for Women’s Empowerment, Kim K. Azzarelli, Vice President, Associate General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Avon Products, Inc., and John B. Bellinger, Legal Adviser, United States Department of State, as well as justice professionals, legal experts, and representatives of international organizations.
