The United National Peoples Party yesterday became the fourth political party to go through The National Electoral Commission’s (NEC) nomination of their Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates.
.The party however faced difficulty when they failed to sign the statutory declaration form and had to seek a Justice of the Peace to sign it.
After the formalities, the Chair person of NEC Christiana Thorpe asked the UNPP presidential candidate Dr Abdul Kady Karim what service delivery the party has in store for the people of Sierra Leone Dr Karim answered that the UNPP if voted into office shall realize that they were a Government of the people and shall take the peoples interest as foremost.
Dr Karim also said the UNPP will make Sierra Leone a worthy place to live for its citizenry taking in to consideration the countries energy problem.
Dr Karim further stressed that the country presently operates in a two class system where the rich becomes richer and the poor extremely poorer.
When asked by Christiana Thorpe whether he was aware of NEC’s code of conduct and how will the UNPP ensure a violent free elections – the UNPP running mate Mohamed Sei said the UNPP saw no reason to cause havoc and the party has sensitized it’s membership to keep away from violence.
Somehow satisfied with the answers and assurances the NEC chair person then signed their documents.
Speaking to Awoko about the disputes within the party over who was the legitimate leader and about the influence of Dr John Karefa Smart, Dr Karim said ‘’The UNPP is much bigger than Karefa Smart and the term for which he was elected to lead the party was over as I was elected party leader in our last convention.’’
