Universal Peace Federation has awarded 30 people in Kenema city with certificates as Ambassadors for Peace in the Kenema district east of the country during its two days International Leadership Conference.
The formal launching of the Global Peace Federation Tour 2009 and the Certification ceremony took place at the Holy Trinity Parish hall along Blama road in Kenema city.
In his welcome address the Regional President east Hassan Ahmed Kabba thanked all for gracing the occasion. He described the program as timely and important because it inspires innovative approaches to peace building and brings together the human family on every level of society.
Giving a background of the Global Peace before presenting the certificates, the National Secretary General of UPF Rev. John Samura said the Global Peace Festival (GPF) or Universal Peace Federation (UPF) promotes and celebrates persons and programs that contribute to reconciliation, mutual respect, harmony and cooperation among members of the whole human family, as ‘One Family Under God’. In partnership with a variety of faith-based organizations, secular NGOs, government agencies, educational institutions, and representatives of the private sector, GPF encourages programs that strengthen God-centered marriages and families, facilitate intercultural and interreligious cooperation, and foster a culture of peace and service. Ongoing programs are carried out throughout the year, and culminate in a biennial Global Peace Festival that consists of three main components: an international leadership conference, a social impact program, and a public celebration.
In his contribution Regional Youth President of UPF Mohamed Fadiru Lamin disclosed that the mission of UPF is to promote, implement and celebrate ongoing programs that bring together people of every race, religion, nationality and culture to stand as one family under God, building a world of lasting peace by strengthening God-centered marriages and families, facilitating intercultural and interreligious cooperation, and fostering a culture of peace and service.
In her keynote address the National President of UPF Miss Alice M. Kamara said the UPF and the interreligious and international Federation for world peace acknowledge as Ambassadors for Peace those individuals whose lives exemplify the ideal of living for the sake of others, and who dedicate themselves to practices which promote Universal moral values, strong family life, interreligious cooperation, international harmony, renewal of the United Nations, a responsible public media, and the establishment of a culture of peace, transcending racial, national and religious barriers. The Ambassadors for Peace contribute to the fulfillment of the hope of all ages, a unified world of peace wherein the spiritual and material dimensions of life are harmonized. The ceremony ended with a cleaning exercise around the Kenema clock tower, Bank of Sierra Leone, Sierra Leone Commercial Bank and Rokel commercial bank.
