The Head of Operations of the United Nations Industrial and Development Organization (UNIDO) Dr. Stephen Bainous Kargbo yesterday handed over CD ROMs of the 95 computers donated to the University Secretariat and Njala University.
Receiving the CD ROMs, the Vice Chancellor and Principal of the University of Sierra Leone Professor Albert Aiah Gbakima expressed gratitude to UNIDO and said the computers were badly needed at the University as it would go a long way in addressing some of the pressing issues at the various departments in the University.
Dr. Stephen Bainous Kargbo disclosed that it was under the leadership of the UNIDO boss, Dr. Foday Yumkella that they were able to put forward the donation.
He used the opportunity to explain some of the activities of UNIDO which he stated were in capacity building and their flagship growth center in three districts in the country. He also said they involve in supporting rural energy; promoting youth employment in the Manor River Union as well as giving out micro credit loans, strengthening the capacity of business management and involvement in agricultural investment.
Dr. Kargbo also paid tribute to his boss Foday Yumkella and wife Mrs. Phelomina Yumkella, Patrick Konowa, the former UNIDO Head of Operations in the sub-region now Minister of Presidential Affairs, Joseph Kamara for their efforts in making sure that the computers were donated.
The University’s Registrar, E.T Gandi said the donation of the computers which they have already started using has done great service to the University. He requested that the University needed much more, like a building that will be in honor of UNIDO.
