The United Nation Development Programme office based in Freetown, has donated five desktop computers, four standing fans, one cannon photo copier, one Honda kva generator, and one HP printer to Fourah Bay College Law society department.
Presenting the items, the programme Manager and Senior Rule of Law advisor Nana Busia said the essence of the item is to help students keep abreast with modern technology.
The manager said it has always been the dream of his Organization to give a helping hand to an institution like Fourah Bay College,because of the impact it has created with regards to better education both in Sierra Leone and abroad. He said the department has initially assisted the Law office in Freetown,the police, and also provided salaries to many other state institutions.Mr.Busia further reiterated that the reason why most reputable institutions had refused to hire the service of most Sierra Leoneans is simply that they cannot deliver,due to the lack of proper capacity development. ‘It is against this back ground we want to come in and help develop such capacity’
He said the UNDP has develop a curriculum which will help students to understand and relate their studies to the community in which they came from. The manager warned them to make better use of their profession,so as to elevate the suffering of its citizens.
The head of department Eke Halloway applauded Mr.Busia for the kind gesture and promised that the department will use the equipment for the purpose for which its was intended. The head of department in his official statement also acknowledged the kind contribution made by the department for International Development DEFID, of which he said will continuously linger on the minds of both the staff and students.
Dr.Osman Gbla dean of the faculty said its his wish to see the department grows. He personally commended Kwame Gerber the president of the law society and his team for working hard,making sure their dream come true. Dr. Gbla in summary analysed the key components that made up of the faculty,citing that they were brought together inorder to utilize the services of the students more especially so when they would have completed their studies. He therefore called on the students to make better use of the equipment as it would help them broaden their level of under standing.
