Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – United Bank for Africa (UBA) has brought joy to the Fefegula family, as Angel Amara Fefegula, a young participant, emerged as the winner of the maiden edition of the “Back to School Remittance Promo.”
The exciting raffle draw unfolded at UBA’s head branch on Charlotte Street in Freetown on Friday, January 12, 2024.
Following the swift 30-second raffle, a call was placed to the mother of the fortunate winner, Saio Alma Kamara, who expressed her delight over her daughter’s good fortune. Kamara, a UBA customer herself, remarked that she has no regrets about banking with the esteemed financial institution.
Salieu Sesay, the Head of Marketing and Corporate Communication at UBA, emphasized the bank’s commitment to extending generosity to customers, even during the challenging month of January. He urged parents to consider opening savings accounts for their children, emphasizing it as an early investment.
Anita Thomas, Acting Head of Retail Banking at UBA, encouraged parents to open a “Kiddies” account for their children, asserting that it could serve as an introduction to the concept of savings. Thomas highlighted the simplicity of opening a kiddies account, stating that it can be initiated from the child’s birth until they reach 12 years old, after which it automatically converts to a Teens account.
Parents interested in opening an account need to make a deposit of Le 250 and provide the child’s birth certificate and photograph. Thomas outlined the benefits, including access to a card, mobile app, transaction notifications, and interest rates. However, she advised parents not to exceed three withdrawals per year to qualify for interest.
Anthony Sam, Head of Remittance at UBA, present during the raffle, highlighted the bank’s key remittance products, such as Africash, RIA, MoneyGram, and Western Union. Sam particularly praised Africash, UBA’s proprietary money transfer product available in 20 African countries, introduced in April 2009. SKS/15/1/2024
