Two men suspected of stealing NPA Conductors thereby depriving residents of Funkia and its environs from much needed electricity were arrested and are now helping the Police in their investigations.
One of the residents an employee at the National Petroleum Company explained to journalists that after close of work on Wednesday he returned home at around 1:00 am and as he was about to go to bed he heard dogs barking in the compound which made him to become suspicious.
He said he managed to look through his window and saw a man on top of the NPA pole cutting the conductor with a plier, He said he rushed through the back door together with other neighbors and the suspects jumped into the water but they were able to apprehend them.
Residents gave the two men severe beating. When this reporter arrived at the Police station the Officer investigating the matter said that the statement that the two suspects made was far different from what happened at the residential area.
The suspects said that they came with their friend to the Emergency Hospital and they were asked to donate blood, and donating the blood one of the suspects was very weak and his companion told him that he has one of his relative at Funkia.
He said they were walking in the dark around 2am all of a sudden they heard people shouting thief that was how they were implicated. However he said that the matter will be thoroughly investigated. In that light he asked the officials from NPA to value the conductors because they want to send the matter to court.
The Public Relations Officer of the National Power Authority Mr. Victor Wilson Clark said that this is not the first time they are getting a complaint of theft of their conductors and they have several cases that are being investigated for court action.
