Two police officers allegedly stole Le950M

Kaytu Gibson and Mohamed Sheik Sillah, Police officers, on Tuesday 6 August 2019, appeared before Magistrate Hannah Bonnie of the Freetown Magistrate Court No.1 at Pademba for alleged stealing Le950 million from Ujin Wan, a Chinese national. According to the Police, on 20 January 2018, at Mile 38, the accused went to the business place of the complainant, Ujin Wan, and took away a bag containing Le950 million. They were charged with Conspiracy and Larceny by the Sierra Leone Police. Testifying in Court, Detective Sergeant Unisa Mohamed Kamara, of the Special Task Force, Central Police Station, noted on the 20 January 2018, the Sales Manager at Ziwan Business, the Complainant, informed him that a Court Order was executed by the accused on his shop.

He underscored that during that process, the first accused, Kaytu Gibson, took away his bag from the shop containing Le950 million, which he handed over to the second accused in order for him to put it in their vehicle. The complainant said the money was to pay his workers. The witness was testifying, when Counsel for the accused, Pious Sesay objected to the testimony and applied for the Magistrate to discharge the accused. He noted that for the past three weeks the prosecution has failed to make any progress in the matter and the Court doesn’t have the locus to preside in such a case, unless the right process is done. The lawyer Adrian Fisher, representing the complainant, objected to such submission made by defence, pointing out that he is not aware what exactly his colleague on the other side want the Court to do. The argument dragged on between both Counsel. Magistrate Bonnie adjourned the matter to 20 August 2019. The accused continue on their bail.
