Two people were arrested on May 13, 2011 by Forest Ranger, Mohamed Sesay Koroma, between Jabama and Moibaima villages in the Kailahun District with some quantity of Cannabis Sativa and a gun.
Mohamed Sesay Koroma explained to Awoko News that Forest Guards and Rangers patrol the reserved forest for twenty-four hours daily and that around 2 a.m. on Friday 13th May, the Forest Guards came in contact with the two accused persons in the forest.
They fought with them but they were later overpowered by the Forest Guards who then took them to the Paramount Chief of Malema Chiefdom, PC Lamin Ngevao, who said he has no hand in the matter because his chiefdom was declared by the UN as arms-free chiefdom.
The two men were then taken to the Gola Forest Office in Kenema City before they were handed over to the Kenema Police Division.
One of the accused persons, Hassan Kargbo, was identified as a diamond miner from Lunsar and the other Momoh Koroma was also identified as a farmer based at Jabama village.
Both men were then charged to court on two-count charges. On count one, they were charged with unlawful possession of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa, contrary to section 48 (1) of the Pharmacy Drug Act of 1988 and on count two, they were charged with unlawful possession of arms without authorisation.
