Alimamy Kabia who escaped from lawful detention at Adonkia Police Station was sentenced to 2 month imprisonment by the presiding Magistrate Bankole Shyllon of court No.3. The accused pleaded guilty of the charge.
In his statement before he was sentenced the accused said he was sleeping in the detention room and when he woke up he found the door open with no security officer around.
He said other inmates had escaped so he also left the police cell. He also explained that he had earlier cautioned other inmates not to escape and tried to alert the security officers but they were not around at the time.
He said after some time he was convinced that if he did not follow them he would be held responsible for their escape. The accused said when he escaped from the cell he saw a truck and pleaded with the driver to drive away from the area It was after some weeks that he was arrested and charged for the said charge.
“Do yah papa Magistrate sorry for me it will never happen again; I am a poor driver with a 3 yrs old son” the accused pleaded.
