Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – On their first appearance in court over allegation of assault on police officer, Mangeh Deen Tarawalie and Musa Turay were admitted to Le 50 million bail.
Tarawallie and Turay were accused of inflicting assault on Sub-Inspector Abu S. Koroma. Both accused are facing four counts of wounding and assault related charges.
The accused were arraigned before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at the Pademba Road Court No.3 in Freetown to answer to the above-mentioned charges.
According to the police, the accused persons, on Thursday 31st August, 2023 at No.20 Oneil Street, in Freetown, assaulted and wounded the complainant, Abu S. Koroma, in a manner thereby causing him grievous bodily harm.
The accused were also accused of assaulting Abu S. Koroma and Mariama Koroma in a manner thereby causing them grievous bodily harm.
At the request of the prosecutor, Detective Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sorie Conteh, the victim, Koroma, is expected to testify against the accused persons on the next adjourned date.
Defense counsel, lawyer Campbell requested bail for his clients.
In his response to the bail plea, Magistrate Bangura granted fifty thousand Leones or fifty million old Leones (Le 50, 000,000) bail, with two sureties in like sum.
He added that the sureties must reside in Freetown. The bail is to be approved by the Deputy Assistant Registrar. The matter comes up on the 17th of October 2023 for further hearing.
